Identity and Pluralism

This week, we are fortunate to send along the first “Topic of the Week,” culled and compiled by State of Formation’s Special Projects Committee. With a new topic each week, we hope to engage in meaningful (and challenging!) discourse online — and address themes that we too often shy away from in the context of inter-religious discourse. Here is the inaugural Topic of the Week:

In an increasingly pluralistic society, it can be diffcult to maintain and express our own identities. We spend significant time supporting and actively engaging with individuals of other traditions. But what of our own views and beliefs? A failure mode of pluralism may in fact be inadequate time spent exploring and expressing ourselves. In an intensely pluralistic environment, how can we maintain our identities and express our convictions?
