Video Blog: “Islamophobia: The New McCarthyism?”

Here is my interview with Odyssey Networks on why, as a Jew, I find the Peter King hearings so disturbing. Do you find them disturbing? If so, why?

On the bright side, as noted in Religious Freedom USA News, numerous religious and ethical leaders have spoken out against the hearings:

Sr. Jeanne Clark wrote a stirring piece in the National Catholic Reporter about “Why Catholics Must Speak Out Against Islamophobia,”  Professor J. Brent Walker, Executive Director of the Baptist Joint Committee, shared in emphatic terms why “Singling out one faith affects them all.”  Rabbis for Human Rights launched a viral media campaign, featuring 25 of the country’s leading rabbis…  Stanton also documented the landmark campaign in his article, “25 Leading Rabbis (and two students!) Speak Out Against Islamophobia.

“The Jewish community remembers the McCarthy hearings in which Jews were singled out. The Peter King hearings serve to enact and institutionalize  the same kind of injustice, and the Jewish religious community is motivated to speak out against this kind of injustice.”
